Discipline of Clinical Anatomy

BIOSKETCH
Mrs Cassandra Creamer is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Human Anatomy at UKZN. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Science (Anatomy) degree at UKZN in 2014 and completed her Honours of Medical Sciences in 2015. She completed her Master of Medical Science degree (Anatomy) in 2020 which focused on the perceptions of the Coloured population towards whole-body donation in the eThekwini region of KZN. Her ongoing doctoral research is the field of forensic anthropology, more specifically forensic taphonomy (decomposition) and how region-specific data can be used to develop formulae for post-mortem interval estimations (time since death). This research will also provide alternative avenues of research in anatomy using animal models (due to shortages in body donors). It informs the development of a forensic decomposition site at UKZN for forensic taphonomy research. Creamer is passionate about her work and aims to add value to the institution by focusing on the importance of innovative research and effective teaching practices. She is actively involved in undergraduate teaching as well as the supervision of Honours and Masters students.
